Tips, Tricks, and Some Outside Help with RV Maintenance & Repairs

When you own an RV, the most important thing you need to do is to make sure you are taking all the steps necessary to prolong the life of your RV. Maintenance is often overlooked or not taken seriously enough, or just might seem too daunting to ensure the longevity of your camper. Neglecting the quality of your RV, more often than not, leads to it needing some more serious maintenance and repairs down the road. When, with the proper attention to detail, the costly bill could have been avoided.

Scroll down for some tips and additional insight that can help keep your RV out of the shops and you on the road.

Tips To Help Prevent Costly Repairs

The last thing any adventurer wants is to receive a costly bill for RV repairs while preparing for their next great adventure. Keeping up with routine maintenance of the various appliances, seals, and so on, make all the difference when one’s looking to avoid extra expenses. To help limit the trips to the shop, here are some tips to help ensure your RV is in peak condition before your excursion.

Inspect Your RV’s:

  • Seams.
  • Tires.
  • Batteries and cables.
  • Brakes.
  • Wastewater system, and keeping it sanitized.
  • Electrical connection between vehicle and RV.

Tips For Repairs on the Road

Taking measures to minimize the risk of springing a leak or having your engine seize up is great and all, but it doesn’t mean that it won’t still happen once you’re on the road. Having the right tools, some spare parts, and fluids can really help out when you’re away from home. Although, if you don’t mind waiting for a bit, being a member of a Roadside Service might just prove useful. Here are some tips that will help get you to the shop:

  • Inspect Your RV Ahead of Time.
  • Budget for emergencies.
  • Bring the right tools.
  • Carry some spare fluids, Duct Tape, and WD-40.
  • Sign up for Roadside Assistance.

If you don’t feel confident making the fix yourself, please contact your roadside service provider for help. There is no need to take a risk, that can make the situation worse than it already is. Tips on Dewinterizing Your RV

Another way in which RV adventurers can prolong the life of their Travel Trailer, Motorhome, Fifth Wheel or other, is to take the proper steps when Winterizing and Dewinterizing. We all love getting to play in the snow or going for a ski/snowboarding trip, but those excursions tend to be the hardest on RVs. Below you can find some additional tips to make this a bit easier.

Inspect Your RV’s:

  • Engine & cooling system.
  • Distributor.
  • Fuel system.
  • Bilge Pump.
  • Water pumps and thermostats.
  • Cables and hoses and pipes.
  • Batteries.
  • Propane tanks and appliances.
  • All other appliances.

If you like to camp during the winter, we recommend going through this same dewinterization process. The winter conditions are rough on an RV, and damage can easily be overlooked and lead to a serious accident later on.
