Idaho is filled with many amazing things such as fishing rivers. There are plenty of rivers that will make for a great fishing experience, but here are some of our go-to rivers for fishing in Idaho!

North Fork Coeur d’Alene River

Located 45 minutes east of Coeur d’Alene, the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River is a fantastic spot for fly fishing. Home to tons of cutthroat trout, you can fish them out of the river from the shoreline or drift along in a boat! While fishing along the North Fork, you might experience some other wildlife such as moose, elk, or even a black bear!

South Fork Snake River

South Fork Snake River is a premium 25-mile canyon bordered by cottonwood forests. The river itself has many channels and islands to explore, giving you many different fishing possibilities and experiences. Cutthroat and brown trouts are the main fish to catch in the South Fork Snake River and they are very prone to biting along this section of the river!

Henry’s Fork of the Snake River

Henry’s Fork is one of the most popular places to fish in Idaho with people coming from around the world to catch monster rainbow trouts. The most popular section is the ranch section in Harriman State Park. It is considered to be one of the more challenging areas to fish in, but the reward of a big fish makes it worth it. Other sections of Henry’s Fork are fantastic for fishing as well and many offer guides for these parts!

Boise River – Urban Section

Fishing is open all year round on the Boise River, making it a very popular spot in Idaho! The water quality is great and offers plenty of rainbow trout to be caught! The best subsection here is below Barber Park as it has pools and riffles that many fish congregate in. Brown trout can also be caught downriver making for more fishing possibilities along the Boise River!

Salmon River

Staying true to its name, Salmon River is one of the few rivers in Idaho that get annual runs of salmon! This makes it a very popular spot as salmon fishing is becoming more popular and enjoyable! You can also find steelhead and cutthroat trout on the Salmon River. It is important to note that salmon fishing seasons are different from trout, so check to see when the season opens and closes!
