If you’re looking for a state park in Idaho that has something to offer everyone, look no further that Lucky Peak State Recreation Area. Located 8 miles southeast of Boise, this park offers three distinct areas that cater to a wide variety of hobbies and interests.
Lucky Peak’s Discovery Park
Discovery Park offers wonderful picnicking, fishing and relaxing. Bring your camera to capture photos of the incredible forest scenery and unique waterfowl. Discovery Park offers a flat water part of the Boise River that is a favorite of kayakers and canoeists. Bald eagles are common in the winter, while during the summer you might spot a resident owl. Dogs are welcome at this park, just bring baggies to pick up after them and keep them on a leash when they aren’t playing in the water.
Lucky Peak’s Sandy Point Beach
Sandy Point Beach is a great place to lay out, get a tan, read a book and just enjoy a gorgeous summer day. This beach is 34-acres and offers shady areas and tall trees. You can enjoy a game of beach volleyball and a variety of watersports. The beach is open year-round. Hard bottom boats and dogs are prohibited here, however, they are allowed in Discovery Park. The beach offers showers, flush toilets and changing areas for your convenience.
Lucky Peak’s Spring Shores Marina
The final area of interest at Lucky Peak State Recreation area is Spring Shores Marina. Although this is a part of the recreation area, this marina is 18 miles southeast of Boise. This reservoir offers jet ski and boat rentals, a boat ramp, a fuel station and even long-term moorage. The marina is the only part of the area that offer wi-fi.
Other activities to enjoy at Lucky Peak include biking, hiking, walking and disc-golf. Although this park does not offer camping, there are many RV campgrounds available nearby.
